Hundreds of volunteers from around the world come to work at Sunseed Desert Technology each year. We rely on these volunteers not only for their valuable work and ideas, but also for our funding. We are almost entirely funded by the donations of our volunteers.
Volunteers can work in all of our departments: Organic gardening, Reforestation-Drylands Management, Appropriate Technology, Eco-Construction, Sustainable Living and Education, Publicity & Fundraising;
and participate in all aspects of life at Sunseed, both in research as well as in community activities such as, seminars, housework, making bread, fruit picking, tours and outside visits. Most visitors thoroughly enjoy their stay and take home with them a better understanding of what a sustainable way of living is truly about.
We have two different kinds of Volunteers at Sunseed:
* Part-Time Volunteers:
Stay for two to five weeks or more and work 4 hours a day Monday to Friday.
* Full Time Volunteers:
Usually stay for a minimum of 4 weeks and work for 7 hours a day Monday to Friday, plus occasional weekends. They tend to specialize in one of our departments and frequently carry out their own projects which are suitable for student projects or placements.
Student Placements:
Sunseed Desert Technology welcomes students at any level who wish to carry out a placement or project at Sunseed as part of their course, usually Students come to Sunseed as Full Time Volunteers. Click on the link above for more details of potential projects and further information.

Almost anyone can volunteer here. But we have some limitations: About people with disabilities: We live in a very rough terrain. Getting around the project site is relatively demanding. There are many steps and uneven paths to get to work sites and it's a long way to the compost toilets. If you have limited mobility or are a wheelchair user, we are very sorry but your access would be restricted.
