Teaching English is the most popular subject, but the programme is also welcome the other subjects such as music, IT, arts and other languages. You don't need to have formal training or speak Chinese language to teach during a volunteer vacation. You just need a respect for the local cultures and a heart big enough to love the children you teach.
The school you will teach in is a English language centre with kids 5 to 18 years old. Their parents send the kids to the center for improving their oral English in a good English atmosphere. Volunteer will be amongst colleagues who speak English. Regardless of their level of expertise, they'll likely be keen to practice their English conversation skills with you. Not only will you have new friends, but your coworkers can help you navigate the area and its customs better than any guidebook.
The volunteer works are:
- English teacher sent to every country.
- English assistant for English corner (popular oral English practice activity in China)
- Teachers for other subjects such as music, IT, arts and other languages
Weekends are free and you will have spare time during the evening to experience a whole calendar's worth of festivals, holidays, cultural events, and seasonal foods. You'll get much more insight than a single trip.
It will give you the chance to travel to the most amazingly beautiful and geographically and culturally diverse places in the world, not as a tourist, but as an insider - someone who is living and working in the country. It will give you insight into the oldest, most populated, culturally rich and complex society on earth. You will observe and participate in the fastest growing economy of any nation in the world today. You will witness extraordinary pollution, poverty, bureaucratic suffocation, and crowding of terrifying proportions. You will learn to love the country so much, and at times you may hate it with a passion, but you will always want to go back.
