Founded by the Society of Jesus in 1851, Saint Joseph's University advances the professional and personal ambitions of men and women by providing a demanding, yet supportive, educational experience. One of only approximately 140 schools with a Phi Beta Kappa chapter in the College of Arts and Sciences and AACSB business school accreditation for The Erivan K. Haub School of Business. Saint Joseph's offers over 40 undergraduate majors to 4,500 full-time undergraduates and over 20 academic programs of study for 3,100 graduate, part-time and doctoral students. Steeped in the 450-year Jesuit tradition of scholarship and service, Saint Joseph's was recently named to the 2007 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for General Community Service. The University strives to be recognized as the preeminent Catholic comprehensive university in the Northeast.
Saint Joseph's is located on a 103-acre campus, boasting a suburban setting just 10 minutes away from downtown Philadelphia. Philadelphia is one of the largest cities in the United States, located just a short train ride away from both New York City to the north and Washington, D.C. to the south. The undergraduate student body is made up of students from 38 states and 32 foreign countries. Our 4,500 undergraduates are active both inside and outside of the classroom, participating in Saint Joseph's nearly 100 student organizations, 20 varsity sports teams, and over 30 intramural and recreational activities. Students may also participate in off-campus activities, taking advantage of all that the city of Philadelphia has to offer.
