The SPI Costa Rica Volunteer Program allows students to study and volunteer, while traveling the fascinating eco-systems of the country. Students arrive into the San Jose Airport and travel to Heredia (a suburb of San Jose) for first day orientation, before heading to the town of Monteverde for the first week of the program. Located in the heart of the Costa Rican rainforest, Monteverde hosts the world famous Cloud Forest Preserve, offering SPI participants a variety of amazing activities and adventures, including nature and wildlife hikes, relaxing hot spring baths and an incredible canopy zip-line tour through the forest! Flamingo Beach, located in the province of Guanacaste along the Pacific Coast, is the final week-long study site. The province is renowned for its breathtakingly beautiful white sand beaches and clear water. Flamingo Beach is a perfect locale for practicing your Spanish in the mornings and swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, sailing, or just relaxing on the beach in the afternoon. Live the good life with SPI in Costa Rica - Pura Vida!
SPI immersion and volunteer programs are guided by experienced directors with small group sizes.
Unlike other study abroad companies that simply make travel, school, and lodging arrangements over the Internet, SPI teachers and directors select high quality schools, excursions, activities and homestay families based on direct experience.
Students have overnight and day excursions to important cultural and historic sites. Excursions: Arenal Volcanoe, Zip-Lining in Monteverde, Heredia.
Academic credit and volunteer/community service credit is available. Students will receive 40-80 contact hours on their transcript that they may petition up to 2-6 hours of college credit.

SPI educates students in foreign language, culture, and travel. We believe that travelers who study abroad develop fluency in another language and attain new perspectives on other cultures. These skills increase their future opportunities for professional and personal success in today's growing international community.
