The SPI Flamingo Beach, Costa Rica program is located in the province of Guanacaste, along the Pacific Coast. The province is renowned for its breathtakingly beautiful white sand beaches and clear water. The small town of Flamingo Beach is a perfect locale for high school students to practice your Spanish in the mornings and swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, sailing, or just relaxing on the beach in the afternoon. Day excursions include visits to Tamarindo Beach, Rincon de la Vieja, snorkel cruise, Santa Crauz and Guaitil pottery center, and more.

SPI Study Abroad Costa Rica immersion and volunteer programs are guided by experienced study abroad directors in small group sizes. SPI works with high quality language schools, organizes fun and meaningful excursions and activities, and selects caring local homestays based on a variety of factors, most importantly on positive feedback from past participants.

Volunteer and community service projects in Costa Rica include home repair and painting, public works projects, working at orphanages, local community projects, and many more.

Highlights

Academic credit and volunteer/community service credit is available. Students will receive 40 contact hours on their certificate/transcript that they may petition for 2 hours of college credit.

SPI offers 2 week long summer immersion, volunteer and study abroad program sessions in Costa Rica, with classes, housing, and a variety of excursions and activities included. Eligible student participants should have at least 1 year of Spanish class, and be completing grades 8-12 at the time of enrollment in the SPI Costa Rica program.
