The SPI Study Abroad China Program, based in Guilin, is a four week program that offers cultural immersion, Mandarin intensive language courses at all levels, culture and elective courses, afternoon activities, and travel to some of China’s most important sights. Excursion highlights include Beijing, The Great Wall, and day trips around Guilin. China’s rapid growth and influence on a global scale have made China an increasingly popular study abroad destination, and Mandarin a more common language of study for both high school and university students.

Highlights

Mandarin classes are offered 25 hours a week at all levels in small, personalized group sizes, and incorporate reading, writing, speaking, listening and cultural emphasis. The SPI China program offers a wide variety of Chinese cultural activities, including martial arts, engraving, paper-cutting, cooking, traditional brush painting, calligraphy, ping-pong, kungfu, and more. Whether you are interested in a summer adventure, seeing China’s most historic sights, or learning Mandarin, the SPI China program for high school students is an experience of a lifetime.

Academic credit is available for SPI China program participants. Students will receive 60-120 contact hours on their transcript that they may petition up to 3-9 hours of college credit. The SPI China program is open to students grades 9-12 and of all language levels, from true beginners, through intermediate and advanced Mandarin students.

In addition to improving language skills and building awareness for world cultures, SPI Study Abroad participants are treated as young adults at a college level, and through this experience they learn to be independent, build important communication skills and a foundation to be young leaders.
