  • Description

A unique opportunity to learn small-scale organic farming techniques and immerse yourself in a rural community in one of the most beautiful areas of Chile. This is a group placement for 3 - 6 people. Some experience with agriculture and farming is ideal.

Volunteer teams spend one month living together at headquarters, a small organic vegetable and herb farm, under the supervision of an Agronomist. You will learn how to collect seeds, plant and transplant seedlings, combine plant varieties to minimize weeds and maximize production 100% organically. There is also plenty of maintenance work and weeding to keep you busy. After the first month, volunteers are sent individually to family farms in the area, returning to headquarters for periodic meetings and to keep in touch.
This internship is located on the magnificent island of Chiloe, just outside Ancud, a small town with excellent transportation connects to other parts of Chiloe and to Puerto Montt and further north on the mainland.

  • Highlights

As a Chile-based organization working directly with the institutions that receive our volunteers, we are able to charge a low consulting fee to cover our costs. We are deeply committed to providing thorough, transparent, personalized consulting prior to your placement decision, to ensure that our volunteers, and the institutions that receive them, both have a rewarding experience.

At the termination of your internship SAC can provide you with a formal, written evaluation which can be used if you are seeking college credit for the placement.

Our volunteers typically are looking for a personalized experience rather than a group program. They are prepared to immerse themselves in Chilean culture for three months, to reach out to the Chileans they meet and find friendship and respect in return. Our volunteers typically work in social service, teaching or environmental placements. They believe that their conduct can make a difference, but are willing to learn as readily as they are to give.
