  • Description

IMPORTANT NOTE: This program is for European and Australian citizens only.

The Au Pair Program allows you to live with a family in another country and be paid pocket money in exchange for helping out with childcare and light housework. You will have time to attend language classes in a nearby school if required and you will be able to practise your language skills with members of the family in everyday situations. We know that this 'total immersion' is an ideal way to improve your language skills and you get to see your host country 'as a local'.

The role is generally 25-30 hours per week, including 2 evenings babysitting. You will often be required to help with breakfast, take the children to school, collect them from school in the afternoon and look after them until the parents return from work. In the afternoon, your responsibilities may include helping with homework, play, take children to sports activities and cooking a light meal. In some positions you are required to help with school homework and/or additional language tuition as parents may want you to teach the children basic English.

Some au pairs travel to English speaking countries and prefer to simply enjoy the cultural experience without the language learning. Aupairing is a great way to make new friends and see a country as a local. It makes your gap year much more affordable and most host families live in comfortable homes in nice locations!

  • Highlights

The most affordable Gap Year: Au pairs travel longer for less and see the country as a local!

  • Qualifications

You need to be over 18 and qualify for a Working Holiday Visa or an Au Pair Visa.

No formal qualifications are required but we expect you to have some proven childcare experience and references are required. This may be from babysitting, after school care, helping younger children with homework, sports coaching, youth leader etc.

We will also need Police clearance (or Blue Card) and Medical report. For au pair positions in France basic knowledge of French is a plus, for Germany basic German skills are required and you will undertake a test as part of your visa application.
