  • Description

SL Volunteers is a Volunteer Organisation based in the South of Sri Lanka, placements include; working at Children's homes and Special Needs Centres, teaching English and coaching sport.

  • Highlights

SL Volunteers is a Volunteer Organisation in Sri Lanka, set up by recent graduates. Their aims are to provide affordable volunteering opportunities for students and graduates whilst making a positive impact in the communities in which they serve. All volunteers are required to undergo a series of in-country training sessions run by local NGOs and charity workers, such as basic Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), working with children and people with special needs.

  • Qualifications

Previous volunteering experience is preferential but not a requirement. Whilst working on the projects volunteers are encouraged to take on an active leadership role. Volunteers are expected to work unsupervised and to use their own initiative. Nevertheless, volunteers will have continued support and guidance throughout their placements.

SL Volunteers recruits people aged 20 and over who are either university graduates or have relevant experience. SL Volunteers endeavours to offer all Volunteers with the relevant training necessary to contribute to the needs of the community in which they serve, while increasing the skills base of Volunteers themselves. All trainings are included in the placement expenses.

Volunteers will be trained in teaching methodology and the drafting of effective lesson plans. Through role-play Volunteers will become acquainted with context specific situations that may arise during their placements.
