Study the history, cultural norms and political structures that help shape attitudes towards sexuality and gender. Pragmatic, socially liberal Netherlands is known for tolerance and openness, but issues of gender and sexuality are now a visible fault line between cultures in this increasingly multicultural society. Internationally, the Netherlands promotes gender as a crucial aspect of economic and social development, and provides material support to womens and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) organizations in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Based in Amsterdam, students explore the intersections of Dutch and international perspectives. Students select one Sexuality and Gender Seminar program module from choices including Critical Theory, Tolerance and Sexual Health Education or Filmmaking with a Sexuality and Gender Lens. Each student also chooses a Field Study practicum with a Dutch or international organization.
Highlights include educational excursions to Croatia, Turkey, and/or Spain. Thirteen weeks in and around the Amsterdam area. All homestay families are aware and supportive of issues surrounding sexuality and gender.

A pioneer in experiential, field-based study abroad, SIT offers semester, summer, and academic year programs for undergraduate students in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East, as well as comparative programs in multiple locations.
Programs focus on critical global issues in specific geographical and cultural contexts using an interdisciplinary approach. Studying with host country faculty and living with families, students gain a deep appreciation for local cultures and become immersed in diverse topics ranging from the politics of identity to post-conflict transformation, from global health to environmental policy.
