    Shaw University is the oldest historically Black university in the South. Located in Raleigh, NC, the University was founded in 1865. Thirteen departments constitute a variety of academic offerings that are geared toward today's employment market. The University offers 22 majors leading to the bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree, three degree programs leading to the associate of arts degree, and one master's degree program in divinity. The Center for Alternative Programs of Education (CAPE) allows students in nine cities across North Carolina the opportunity to pursue an academic degree through flexible course scheduling, independent study, and credit for prior learning experiences. Shaw University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the associate, bachelors and master's degrees.
