Description

The Shakespeare Hotel in Vilnius, immersed in the literary aura, is founded in a 17th century building, which once was the home of noblemen families. The present hotel building used to host literary evenings where the most recent works of contemporary writers were read. According to written sources, by early 17th century works by William Shakespeare had already reached Lithuania as during the rule of Sigismund Vasa the Lithuanian-Polish Commonwealth was toured by a group of „English comedians“, whose repertory included some works by this great author. Later the building hosted a printing house of books and other publications.The air of the period is permeating the walls of the Shakespeare Hotel. Every little corner reminds of literary tradition, ancient books, paintings, unique interior details fill rooms and halls.
