Semester at Sea was the most amazing experience I have ever done. Traveling to so many places and going on endless adventures is something that just can't be done with any other study abroad program. I met so many awesome people and made some life-long friends. It was the single best thing I ever did in college and I came back from the experience a changed person. I wish everyone could do it!
Semester at Sea was absolutely the best experience of my life. It is hard to put in words just what Semester at Sea means to me. It is not a cruise - it's a voyage! With SAS you will be able to travel the world, meet some of your future best friends, make awesome connections with faculty and staff, and change your world view. If you are worried about the price tag - don't. SAS offers so many scholarships and different forms of financial aid. It is also worth every penny in student loans. It will pay for itself when you get an awesome job because a company was so impressed by your SAS experience. It is a conversation starter and something that will really make you stand out. I cannot say enough great things about SAS and cannot think of a single negative thing to say about it. The only "bad" thing I can think of is that you will fall so in love with SAS that you will do anything to get back on the ship.
Honestly, there is not a day that goes by without me trying to relive my experiences from Semester at Sea. I went around the world in 110 days! How many people do you know have done that? It changed my life, AND as cliche as that sounds, it is true. You have the opportunity to meet the most amazing people and learn so much about the world and yourself along the way. YOU ONLY HAVE ONE LIFE, LIVE IT!
Semester at Sea changed my life forever. Traveling with Semester at Sea, I found my true passion working with Burmese Refugees. Had I not had the opportunity to go to Burma with SAS in 2006, I wouldn't be in the career position that I am. The program also opened my eyes to other cultures and religions, and erased many fears I had about those I knew little of before my travels. Semester at Sea also made me a stronger person, and made me a little bit more outgoing as well. I promote the program constantly, and try to help all the upcoming students to the program that I can. I have made many friends due to the Semester at Sea program. Thank you SAS for changing my life!!!
Semester at Sea is the only program I know of which provides students an opportunity for a true cross-cultural experience. On my voyage, we traveled to 10 countries on 3 continents. The time spent in each country is short, true, but the classes on the ship give students knowledge of the history and culture of countries before visits, so students have enough background to make sense of what they experience. The approach of traveling to countries in far corners of the world means students can compare the culture and lifestyles of people in very diverse places - and come to understand what makes us all unique, but how truly similar people around the world are.
