Global semester at sea programs offering credit in marine and nautical science, communication and leadership, while voyaging throughout the world's oceans aboard traditionally rigged schooners. Voyage duration ranges from 20 to 90 days.
If you're looking for a unique educational adventure, one that is not confined by the four walls of a traditional classroom, then Sea|mester could be the right program for you. Throughout the year, Sea|mester offers global semester at sea voyages for college students and high school graduates. S/Y Ocean Star, our 88-foot schooner sails full-time in the Caribbean, whereas our new vessel S/Y Argo circumnavigates the world. Along the way, our crews visits many different islands and countries, undertaking research and service projects with local government and private organizations while simultaneously working toward their academics and certifications.
The structure of all voyages is based upon principles of experiential and adventure education. You'll learn marine science and oceanography as you dive and conduct research on the reefs; geology as you trek through mountainous terrain; meteorology and navigation as you plot your course across the ocean; leadership and communication skills as you work within a close team. The learning is multifaceted, so the curriculum, as well as the day-to-day itinerary and schedule, come to life. The experience is unforgettable, life-defining and rewarding, not simply as an adjunct part, but rather a benchmark of your education. In this stimulating environment the expedition becomes the vehicle for gaining knowledge, understanding, confidence and skills.
No experience is necessary. Sea|mester is coeducational and non-competitive. The activities are not physically demanding, yet are challenging enough to teach the crew to work together.

Our mission is to provide a life changing adventure at sea that teaches participants that ultimately it is the journey rather the destination that matters most. We will provide the framework for this voyage of self-discovery by: Mentoring by example. Fostering personal growth through teamwork. Encouraging academic interest in ocean and earth sciences through experiential learning. Teaching watermanship skills through active participation in the day-to-day operation of the vessel. Developing a sense of social responsibility through involvement in environmental projects.
