Sadhana Forest Haiti is offering one month or longer work exchange volunteer/internship/study abroad opportunities in the fields of ecology, reforestation, sustainable living and conservation.
You are most welcome to volunteer at Sadhana Forest Haiti at any time!
Sadhana Forest Haiti is a daughter community of Sadhana Forest in Auroville, India.
Our main projects are water runoff control, soil erosion control and vegan organic food growing.
Volunteers mainly plant, mulch and water trees, do water conservation, work in our little vegan-organic vegetable garden, and maintain the community area.
We appreciate creativity and initiative and welcome any ideas you may have to improve our project and our community.
We practice an eco-friendly way of life including veganism, alternative construction, solar energy, biodegradable toiletries, and compost toilets.
The minimum stay in Sadhana Forest Haiti is one month. Please bring your own tent!
We are happy to welcome volunteers here any time of the year. We are fully committed to accept everyone that wishes to volunteer here and help the project. You do not need to let us know the date of your arrival unless you wish to do so. Please simply plan your trip so that you arrive to Sadhana Forest Haiti Monday to Friday. Please do not arrive on the weekend.
Sadhana Forest Haiti is a nonprofit ecological project that does not generate any income. Therefore we unfortunately cannot afford to provide free food for volunteers. We have communal vegan meals. We all equally share the cost of the food ingredients we purchase. The total cost of food per person is 6 USD. In the future, when we grow our own food, we hope to pay less. The cost of food is the only cost associated with volunteering. Everyone takes turns organizing and cooking the meals and washing the dishes. Depending on the number of people here at a given time, each meal has one or more cooks, plus help from whomever is around.
Sadhana Forest is a 100% vegan environment, so we ask volunteers not to bring or eat any non-vegan food in the forest. A vegan is a person who avoids the use of any animal products for nourishment or for any other purpose. Vegans do not eat meat, fish, eggs, dairy (milk) products, honey, or any other animal products. Our primary motivation to be vegans is to reduce animal suffering.
Volunteers should not to use, drugs and alcohol or smoke cigarettes during their entire stay at Sadhana Forest, whether inside or outside of Sadhana Forest. If you think you cannot stop using these substances for the length of time of your stay here, please find another project.
Sadhana forest Haiti is a non-smoking community.
We are located in a the town of Anse-a-Pitre, in the southeast of Haiti, situated roughly 1km from the border of the Dominican Republic, the nearest Dominican town, Pedernales, is only about 2-3 km from the border.
There are plenty of shops, pharmacies, internet cafes and restaurants in Pedernales. The nearest hospital is also in Pedarnales. Pedernales is easily accessible from Anse-a-Pitre and we feel safe in our local community. The easiest way to get to us is to fly to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, then catch one of the local buses to Pedernales and a motorbike taxi to the border, where we will pick you up.
We ask everybody who comes to Sadhana Forest Haiti to bring your own tent and 100% biodegradable toiletries amongst other things.
When you contact us you will receive all the necessary, updated information.
We are slowly and surely creating our community here, growing vegetables and growing our home, and we are in the very early stages of re-foresting the surrounding hills. If you are feeling inspired and would like to join us, in the spirit of love and human unity all are welcome in Sadhana Forest Haiti.
We look forward to welcoming you in Sadhana Forest Haiti!

Our main project is the reforestation of 70 acres of severely eroded land in the international community of Auroville. We are working to re-create the Tropical Dry Evergreen Forest indigenous to our area. We practice an eco-friendly way of life including veganism, organic gardening, alternative construction, solar energy, and composting toilets.
