The Rising Cock came into existence in 2004 in Lagos, Portugal - a place known for sparkling beaches, active nightlife and interesting history. Everything served to be the ideal backdrop for what would be an entrepreneurial venture for two Portuguese-American brothers. The Cock was erected at the right place, at the right time, giving birth to the first genuine party hostel in town.

Together they purchased a 3-bedroom apartment with the hopes of turning it into a successful business. Amenities were limited and they knew virtually nothing about the hostel industry. However, they made up for it with a cock stamp of hospitality with each and every guest that arrived. The welcoming and friendly climate of the Rising Cock made it an instant success. “Some nights, they would sleep 30 people in and around the Cock; bodies everywhere - on the floor, on the couch, under a hammock, on a balcony, or even on a freezer,” remembers a first guest. It was a big family, all together, sleeping, eating, chilling, partying...and partying.

Today, we have come far from the original 3-bedroom apartment. We now have a total of five facilities in Lagos and sleeps over 100 people. In addition to having the ability to accommodate over 100 guests, we offer Portugal’s first girls-only hostel for our female guests who can’t handle the Cock. The Cock has come a long way, and is continuing to rise.

Over the years, we have positioned ourselves as a Party Hostel. The responses from our guests have been very positive and full of pleasure; we couldn’t possibly begin to thank them all. Our guests are the heart that pumps blood into the Cock; our story is their story.

In 2011, the Rising Cock was nominated as the number three best party Hostel in the world .
