  • Description

    Programme Information

This rewarding programme allows you to offer your support in three different project areas in Uganda that are in much need of your assistance; these areas include Community Support, Orphan Skills Training and Teaching. The programme is available in two great locations, Kampala; which has good access to the city and Kyotera, which is a great rural location.

You either have the option to volunteer in all projects, so that you can provide support and observe a variety of different environments, alternatively, if you prefer to focus your time volunteering on just one option, you can select one of these projects.

Please note: Please specify prior to departure if you wish to be more involved with a specific area, as this helps with project planning and allows the project to be more flexible based on the needs and workload of the project at that time.

  • Highlights

    Community Support
The aim of this project is to improve the welfare of orphaned, vulnerable, or disadvantaged children and their families, many of whom have been affected by HIV/AIDS and live under extremely impoverished circumstances.

Working with local project staff and fellow volunteers you will help to identify these families and make home visits to assess their needs and create a profile based on this assessment. These profiles will then be used in the future to create funding and sponsorship through various means, which is vital to providing self-sufficiency kits and development work to benefit these targeted families.

    Orphan Skills Training
You will be an important member of the team at a vocational skills training centre, which was set up by community volunteers to support the ever increasing number of orphaned and vulnerable children out of school and help them gain important skills to enable them to become self sufficient.

The centre aims to improve the welfare of HIV/AIDS orphans and children from very deprived backgrounds by equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge that they need to become independent, thus positively influencing their future to make a real difference. These skills would include things such as brick laying, carpentry, improved agricultural practices and tailoring or dress making, to name but a few.

    Teaching
Uganda is one of the friendliest countries in Africa, but also renowned for its poor economic status and vast numbers of orphans and young children left below the poverty line. At this project you will provide invaluable support to the teachers at a rural school in southwest Uganda. The school was established in 2003 with the aim of providing a higher standard of education to the local youth, including free schooling to orphaned and vulnerable children who have been recognised and assisted through our Outreach scheme.

The school has seriously limited resources and is in desperate need of your help. You will be able to spend your time teaching basic subjects whilst also being creative in developing after school activities, helping in various workshops and even taking part in local community development schemes.
