Typical Duration of Program

The community of Dar es Salaam requires the assistance of volunteers in many ways. Help to provide children, youths and adults with the care, education, skills and support that can enable them to avoid falling into Africa's poverty trap. Teach, get involved in projects including adult education, HIV awareness, music and drama workshops, sports coaching and working in nurseries and day care centers. Not only will you be making an amazing difference to the people in the community, you are will be living in one of the most interesting parts of Tanzania with the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean only a short walk away.
Volunteer Role:
You will be providing the children with some of the much needed care and support that their lives so desperately lack, and keeping them away from the dangers of the street in a safe environment.
Examples of the work you can get involved in include:
* Nursery Schools and Day Care Centers
* Primary Schools & Secondary Schools
* HIV Awareness program
* Adult English Classes
* Sports Coaching
* Computer Teaching Initiatives
* Construction
Since project hours vary, it is possible to combine more than one option - for example spending the mornings working at a nursery school, which will close by midday, and then coaching sports in the afternoons. If you would like to teach, you can choose between nursery, primary or secondary level and again, combinations are possible.
