Many of the children at this project have had to deal with the kind of hardship that many people will never know. Whether it is a lack of affection, being separated from their family or being subjected to neglect or abuse these children are in great need of a healthy environment where they can develop to their highest potential. This is a very special project that offers a home to many children that have been orphaned, abused, abandoned, or neglected and some who are HIV infected.
Program Details
The staff at this project are doing an amazing job of caring for the children but are massively over-stretched. The children aged five and under are in great need of love, care and attention, having had such a hard start to their lives. Through the staff and your help these children will be provided with stimulation and care they greatly need in order to boost their physical and emotional development and enable them to go on to happier and healthier futures. You will be involved in all areas of the running of the home on a daily basis, from organizing activities to helping to prepare food and changing nappies, so will need to be willing to get involved and more importantly have a great love of children.
You will be spending your time with the children every day while helping at the project. There will be a range of activities that you can do with the children playing games and helping with arts and crafts. You will also be able to help with their daily care, which may include feeding, bathing, changing nappies and wiping noses! You'll also assist staff in the day to day running of the center which could include cleaning, washing dishes, gardening or painting. There is also an opportunity for you to get involved with hospital and clinic duties, plus help out at the crèche with the older children.
While you are working at this project your hours will be flexible on the following days; Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from roughly 9:30am to 4.30pm. The other days will be your free time to explore Cape Town and the surrounding area, however, any extra time you can give to the project will be greatly appreciated by all.
