This project involves various aspects of community work and development initiatives that will provide you with a diverse and varied experience, providing a great insight into the lives of underprivileged individuals in Cape Town.
Program Details:
You will spend your time teaching in Ocean View, on the outskirts of Cape Town while also assisting in a number of excellent development schemes, aimed at supporting the wider community.
As a volunteer you will work as a teaching assistant in the classroom. The teacher will allocate a list of names of students who need extra assistance with their work so you will be working on a one on one basis with them helping them with their Math, English and reading etc. Many of the children's parents are illiterate or work long hours and are unable to assist the children with their homework. As a result the children lack confidence and fall behind. Most of the schools here also lack proper facilities but there is a wealth of children that are all eager to learn. Your creativity is also very welcome - the school would like to be able to brighten up the classrooms with bright paints, games etc. so your input is very important!
Your typical schedule will be Monday to Thursday from 8am to 2.15pm and Friday from 8am to 12pm. Weekends are free.
