Thousands of people in Costa Rica need your help…. living in houses that do not have adequate sanitation or protection from the weather, is common place in many rural communities in this beautiful country, but you can be a part in changing this. With a bit of hard work, you can really make a difference by building new homes that are safe and secure for the people that need it most. So what are you waiting for, roll up your sleeves and get building!
Program Details:
As a volunteer on this program, you will have the wonderful opportunity to play a vital role in the improvement of living conditions for some of the local people in Costa Rica through the building of new homes; with a bit of help from the local builders of course! You will be able to leave safe in the knowledge that you really have made a difference to someone's life.
This project has been created thanks to a contribution from the Government of Canada which lead to the formation Costa Rican and Canadian Rural Housing program which, among other things, funds the re-development of homes in some of the poorest rural communities of Costa Rica.
The activities and tasks that you may be involved in will vary depending on the stage of the building work when you arrive. You will be able to get in involved in all aspects of the building process; some of the tasks may include the following:
* Digging trenches for foundations
* Laying floors
* Mixing up concrete
* Carrying materials to the building site
* Putting roofs on houses
* Building septic tanks
No previous building experience is required to participate in this program and there will be plenty of people that will be able to show you the ropes! All we ask is that you are willing to work hard, persevere and remain open minded; Costa Rica is a laid back country and things may not happen as quickly as you are used to back home.
