Location
Argentina: Buenos Aires
Program Duration
2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program
5-8 weeks
This volunteer program focuses on working closely with locals who are impoverished and lack basic amenities and services that we may take for granted. Some of these locals have been forced to live on the street or live in areas that lack some basics, such as running water or paved roads. Many of these people do not have access to proper education, food or child care services and are unable to break the cycle of poverty.By volunteering, you'll be providing desperately needed assistance to some of the most vulnerable and forgotten residents in Buenos Aires.
Tasks may depend on the needs of our projects at any given time but can range from:
* Provide daily assistance to local residents
* Receive and organize shipments (food, clothing, supplies)
* Spend quality time with residents
* Assist in health and safety workshops
* Preparing meals / working in the kitchen
* Cleaning / tidying
* Participate in activities
* Reading to people
* Providing a friendly face / support
* Recreational activities
No matter which tasks you undertake during your time as a volunteer, you will find the program a rewarding experience.
* Accommodation
You will be staying in a hostel, located just one block away from the Spanish language school where your Spanish course will be hosted. The hostel offers a fun and relaxed atmosphere mixed with top quality services you'd usually find in a hotel. You'll find a bar, a modern kitchen, a cozy TV and DVD room, a games room and there is internet access. You will stay in a 6-bed dorm room with shared bathroom facilities. You will be provided with your own set of clean sheets and blankets. Laundry facilities are available. Individual lockers are provided in every room, as well as luggage holding rooms for longer periods of time.During your volunteer program, you have the option of upgrading your accommodation to a host family or shared apartment (at an extra cost). Please speak to a travel adviser if you are interested in either of these options.
* Meals
Breakfast is included at the hostel. For lunch and dinner you can either buy meals out locally or buy produce and prepare your own meals in the fully equipped kitchen at the hostel. Food in Argentina is relatively cheap for South America.If you do upgrade (at an extra cost) to stay with a host family during your volunteering you will be provided two meals a day (breakfast and dinner).
* Program Support
Throughout your stay in Argentina, you will have the support and guidance of the program coordinator and team. They will provide you with competent field support and assistance and help you with any questions, or support, you may need during your stay. In addition, we will provide you with a 24 hour emergency contact number before you depart, so that you can contact our UK staff at any time should you need to.
* Project Age Limit
Minimum 18 years, maximum decided on potential participants' health.
* Program Requirements
All volunteers will be required to take a 2 week Spanish course before starting their volunteer program. Even if you can speak Spanish to a high level, it is still necessary to take the lessons because the Argentina accent and dialect can be difficult to understand. The course will not only increase your Spanish language skills but help you communicate better with your peers and fellow volunteers. The more Spanish you can speak, the greater you will be able to get involved in activities as English may not always be spoken.
