We invite volunteers to apply to teach a class of Egyptian students one of the following languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian or Russian. Teaching terms last just 5 weeks and volunteers are urged to help us to push the given language courses to a serious and professional level by preparing placement and final tests. These final tests are held the week after the teaching course ends. Each week volunteers are required to teach 3 hours of lessons, using the resources provided. There is of course the freedom for volunteers to prepare their own materials if they choose. All volunteers will receive a weekly session of Arabic lessons free and there are discounts available on any the courses run by Access Cairo should the volunteer choose to take additional classes.
Volunteer teachers can gain invaluable experience through the Access Cairo Program. They will leave the position with the ability to prepare their own lessons and the confidence to deliver them in front of a class. There is also the knowledge that they will have helped to facilitate cultural exchange and promote mutual understanding. Past volunteers have often found the experience to be a reward in itself and have even gone as far as to say that it has taught them some lessons rather than the other way around. Of course, the free weekly Arabic class gives volunteers a chance to learn some Arabic or improve on their existing knowledge. Additionally, the discounts open to volunteers can make more intensive Arabic learning more affordable.
For a position as a volunteer teacher there are few requirements. We are seeking applicants who can teach one of the following languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian or Russian. It is preferable that you are native speaker, although you could if you choose volunteer to teach a second language. The only other requirement is that you are or will be in Cairo for at least 6 weeks. All applications will be considered.
There is no fee for volunteering.
All volunteers are welcome to come to to the NGO to request support and help finding accommodation or other queries. We will try to help them as much as we can. All teaching materials are provided.

A typical volunteer must be keen and committed. They must realise that from the moment of agreeing to teach a class there will be anything up to 15 students who are depending on them. They must be reliable. They shouldn't make the commitment lightly. They should be organised and endeavor to make classes as interesting as possible.

The Reach Out NGO was founded in 2008 with the mission of cultural exchange and capacity building in Egypt. Through its program Reach Out aims to build up cultural exchange between Egyptians and foreigners. This includes several features, from providing interactive workshops to organizing internships for interested students with other NGOs and organizations in Cairo. As language is key to understanding different cultures, the Integrated Human Development Center (IHDC) language program was our first project and has rapidly developed to fit the needs of those who have joined it. Here Egyptians get the opportunity to learn foreign languages directly by volunteer native speakers for a very low cost. Hence a wide range of people who otherwise would never be given the chance to develop their skills are supported. At the same time the language program provides cultural exchange for both sides as volunteer teachers are offered 2 Arabic classes a week. But as cultural exchange is not only dedicated to language our organization offers programs for art and music exchange, amongst others, to understand traditions and customs of other cultures in daily life. It is therefore a win-win project for locals and foreigners, who learn to understand, accept and integrate with each other. An essential dialogue shall be initiated between our cultures which in turn will build stronger links between them.
