Ramapo College was founded on the four educational pillars of international, intercultural, interdisciplinary, and experiential. These pillars provide our students with a strong, holistic, liberal arts education while on campus. However, on-campus experience can only take student knowledge and experience to a point. In order to supplement their on-campus courses, it is important to have experiences outside of the classroom to fully understand the principles, concepts, and theories discussed in the classroom. Professionally, having an international, intercultural experience can make students stand out in their job search, placing them above other candidates. Over the last 10 to 15 years, managers have exhibited their desire for employees who possess intercultural communications skills, something that is often developed during a study abroad experience. Personally, studying abroad challenges students in unique and unmatched ways, encouraging their personal growth on an emotional level, strengthening their sense of independence, and engaging them as global citizens.
