Right on the bank of the river Dão, between Coimbra and Viseu, four lovely restored farmhouses offer peace and quiet in a beautiful setting, with magnificent views over the river and the old town of Santa Comba Dão.

Quinta do Rio Dão is part of a small village, Quinta do Rio, located 2 km from the historical city of Santa Comba Dão. Quinta do Rio Dão has four lovely restored farm houses available for guests, all with beautiful views in a very nice and quiet environment. Although the Quinta is quiet, it is by no means isolated. There are excellent connections with Lisbon, Oporto and Spain and it is well located for visiting some of the most interesting places of Central Portugal, such as the magnificent mountains of the Serra da Estrela and the Serra do Caramulo, the national park of Bussaco, the old university city of Coimbra and the city of Viseu. The vine-yards of the famous Dão wine are nearby.

The river Dão is very broad near Quinta do Rio, because it is part of the artificial Lake of Aguieira. The dam is about 10 km from the Quinta.

The Quinta measures about 3 hectares and has several terraces, most of them bordered with vine-tendrils. There is a vegetable garden and there are many fruit trees. There is also a small vineyard on the Quinta and nearer to the river there are some very old cork oaks.

The agriculture at Quinta do Rio Dão is officially classified as biological. All products produced on the Quinta are 100% biological.

* From Salamanca, Spain
Enter Portugal in Vilar Formosa. Take the A25 in the direction of Aveiro. Near Viseu turn to the IP3 in direction of Coimbra. About 1 km after Santa Comba Dão turn to Vimieiro. (Caution: This exit is very bad signalized, but is just after the bridge over the river Dão). Follow the signs "Agro-Turismo" up to Quinta do Rio Dão (3 miles).

* From north Portugal (Viseu)
Take the IP3 in direction Coimbra. About 1 km after Santa Comba Dão turn to Vimieiro. (Caution: This exit is very bad signalized, but is just after the bridge over the river Dão). Then follow the signs "Agro-Turismo" up to Quinta do Rio Dão (3 miles)

* From Lisbon / Oporto
Take the A1 in direction Oporto / Lisbon. Either from Lisbon or Oporto, take the exit Viseu / Figueira da Foz (IP3), near Coimbra. Follow the IP 3 in the direction of Viseu and just before Santa Comba Dão take the exit Vimieiro. (Caution: This exit is very bad signalized, after a corner, just 300 yards before the exit Santa Comba Dão.) Then follow the signs "Agro-Turismo" up to Quinta do Rio Dão (3 miles).
