Since 2004 Proyecto Horizonte has been working in the areas of education, healthcare, and community development to help empower the citizens of Ushpa-Ushpa in Cochabamba to lift themselves out of poverty and lead a sustainable lifestyle. Proyecto Horizone relies on active local participation so that the programs may eventually be fully operated by the citizens of Ushpa.
Our initiatives in the area of education seek to make life-long learning accessible to citizens of all ages primarily through our scholarship program. Our health center serves nearly 100 patients each day free of charge and frequently runs public health awareness initiatives. Proyecto Horizonte has also developed various community development programs from Tantakuna, an artisanal handicraft micro-enterprise, to our team of psychologists that provide individual aid to students that are having difficulties. The community development programs catalyze personal development for locals so that they may make positive and effective decisions for themselves as well as their families.
We are consistently launching new programs and discovering new methods to tackle poverty and therefore we are reliant on our dedicated staff and enthusiastic volunteers. Work is very diverse and depends on the abilities and ideas of each volunteer. For example, positions could be working in the daycare, teaching English, coaching sports or arts programs, helping prepare community development workshops, assisting in marketing or fundraising, working with the Tantakuna group, or developing your own project according to your profession. We ask volunteers to be with us for a minimum of one month, and we ask volunteers working with us for less than three months to donate $150 USD to the organization. It is free for anyone working with us for three months or more. We hope you consider partnering with us for an unforgettable learning, volunteer experience.
