Combine volunteering with language immersion and cultural immersion during your summer vacation! Join ProWorld along with its sister high school program Ayusa Volunteer Abroad in India for the international experience of a lifetime. This program challenges its participants to grow as individuals and as members of our global community. Our high school volunteer program includes a three-week group stay in Udaipur, six hours of language instruction, and one cultural excursion per week. The cultural highlight of this program is a two day visit to the beautiful Taj Mahal.
Students will spend each morning learning very basic standard Hindi with fellow volunteers, and in the afternoons the group works together on a community development project. Students will share their experiences in daily debriefings and participate in lively roundtable discussions lead by a local representative. Once a week, AYUSA will offer cultural excursions and other group activities. Through experiential and academic learning, hands-on development work, and cultural immersion, students will grow as individuals and as global community members. Working and learning together as a group creates shared experiences and provides a peer-to-peer support system for our students, a vital component of every ProWorld & AYUSA service learning Program.
The program in India offers several projects from which to choose: students could help design an event to raise awareness about traditional health practices and healthy lifestyles for rural people; become involved with "Wells for India" to support one of the various water conservation projects; or, if a student knows how to sew or is passionate about fashion design, they may want to assist in training rural women in sewing and dress design, allowing them to make extra money outside their own community.
During their stay abroad, students will be embarking on cultural outings. Possible weekly excursions may include:
* Ollantaytambo, very traditional Inca village yet untouched by the modern world. Walk among one of the best examples of ancient Inca terraces and enjoy the breathtaking view of the surrounding Sacred Valley.
* Pisac, a lively market town along the main Sacred Valley road. Explore the town or go shopping in one of the best markets in the area for artisan goods.
* Ollanta Weaving in the Quechua community of Patacancha. Spend a morning or afternoon here and receive an
* Program Finale Machu Pichu, for many the highlight of their trip to Peru! You will hike through the cloud forest to the historic and mystical ruins which have been listed as one of the "modern wonders of the world."
