  • Description

Do you enjoy meeting people from all sorts of backgrounds? Do you enjoy helping people by teaching them new skills? Do you enjoy an intellectual challenge? If you answered yes, then TESOL is for you.

This program will give you a strong academic foundation in theory and practice. It produces effective classroom instructors, as well as those who can develop curriculum and materials.

The 32 credit-hour TESOL Certificate is the heart of the Providence TESOL programs. The certificate can be completed in one year of full-time study during the regular school year. The TESOL Certificate program can be incorporated into any Bachelors degree Major. The core TESOL courses (15 credit hours) can be taken during the one-month Summer TESOL Institute. The Certificate can be completed in the summer if students bring sufficient credit transfer.

  • Highlights

You can join our TESOL graduates in teaching English to new Canadians right here in Canada. Or you can travel just about any place in the world, from China to Africa, to help people learn English, one of the world's key trade languages. You can be employed by private agencies or by governments. All the while you will have a ministry of helping people to improve their lives.

  • Qualifications

Students studying TESOL can take a one-year certificate, a minor, or a major. TESOL can also be done in conjunction with a major such as Social Science, Music, or Inter-cultural Studies. Students can take a Major or a Minor in TESOL. Both the Major and Minor incorporate the TESOL certificate. The TESOL Minor can be taken alongside any other Major. The Major includes a practicum experience of teaching in a cross-cultural setting for a minimum of 60 hours of teaching.
