For anyone considering a career in law, spending two weeks visiting a firm in Chengdu will offer you unique international work observations. Your time will include visits to a law firm and various legal departments.
Upon arrival, you will receive a briefing on the legal system in China from your supervisor, who will speak excellent English and be happy to answer any of your questions. During your two week placement, you will get a broad overview of law in China, spanning the entire legal spectrum of commercial and corporate law.
Your work may include researching case studies, proof reading documents, and making comparisons between the Chinese, US, and other worldwide legal systems.
During the weekend you will have a chance to experience different aspects of Chinese life through a visit to the surrounding countryside.
Although it is embracing capitalist modernity, beneath the glitzy highrises China retains strong traditions, cultures and values that have been honed and developed over several millennia.
In Shanghai, one of the world's largest cities, you will be free to experience the Chinese lifestyle while living in an apartment with up to three other volunteers. While living in the city, you will be able to see first hand how quickly China is changing and adapting to Western influences. During your cultural immersion, you'll get to sample local dishes and Shanghainese entertainment or dance at the swankiest club; the choice is yours!
Hangzhou is famous for its natural beauty as well as its historical and cultural traditions. While sharing Shanghai's thrive for change and diversity, it is also home to the beautiful West Lake for a relaxing weekend.
In addition, this project offers the opportunity to become fully immersed in the culture in a manner which even the most hardened of backpackers could never hope to do.

As part of the global economy, Projects Abroad helps create local employment wherever we send volunteers. Employing local staff overseas and using their talents and knowledge is important to us. This local knowledge and support enables the organization to channel the skills of the volunteers from more affluent countries to regions around the world where they are needed. Volunteers also learn from their placements and the people they meet, and they gain experience in a chosen field. In the 21st century, we believe this mutual respect is what cultural exchange is all about.
