You will gain incredible experience while interning abroad on a Human Rights internship in Morocco! This is a great international internship whether you are a law student on a sabbatical or school break or a graduate looking to gain some practical work experience in human rights or law prior to a master's degree. Interns must have at least one year of related experience to participate.
Your exact role will be determined by your knowledge of law and human rights issues and your level of interest in specific areas of human rights.International law experience is something all law firms will be pleased to see when recruiting trainees and new partners. In addition to this, international human rights NGO positions require experience in the field.
Over the past decade many national and international organizations have been working with the Moroccan authorities to improve the situation of the poor and vulnerable within the country. Projects Abroad interns assist in a variety of hands-on initiatives, policy building research, and fact-finding missions.
The Human Right's projects main language of communication is Arabic or French. Interns need at least a high intermediate level of French or Arabic and should be confident in both writing and speaking in one or both of these languages. Volunteers are encouraged to join the Human Rights project for at least two months, which will give you time to adapt to the new environment, learn about the work, and truly contribute to the project.
Depending on your studies and areas of interest, you have different opportunities in Morocco for Human Rights. Grass roots organizations need assistance with fact-finding missions, educational campaigns, refugee work, and general support of vulnerable people.
Most human rights organizations are located in the cosmopolitan capital of Rabat or the commercial capital of Casablanca. An internship in Morocco offers a unique opportunity for legal work and a special cultural experience for those interested in the field of human rights.
Our main projects involve the rights of women, children and refugees. Your role might involve various activities such as raising awareness in communities, preparing leaflets, posters or educational tools, running training programs, planning promotional campaigns, or monitoring elections.
The human rights organizations we partner with are serious professional bodies. You may sometimes have deadlines or be asked to represent the organization at meetings and other events. Your work will be important for the growth of human rights in North Africa.
The whitewashed city of Rabat has many attractions, especially its elegant mosques, enchanting palaces, tranquil parks and gardens, its sandy beach (stretching all the way to Casablanca), and its famous blue and white Kasbah, which is well worth exploring. If you're looking for more exciting activities, it's easy to organize a trip into the Sahara, where you can enjoy scenery straight from a film-set, as Tuaregs in flowing blue robes ride their camels across seemingly endless sand-dunes.
For the more adventurous volunteer, Morocco offers water sports like scuba-diving or white-water rafting. The Atlas Mountains are great for hiking, snowboarding and skiing, whereas the desert is the starting point for camel-trekking and off-roading.
Living and working in Morocco may be a challenge, but with so much to learn and so many magical sights to see, it's a challenge you'll be glad you accepted.
One year of related experience and an intermediate level of written and spoken French and/or Arabic.

As part of the global economy, Projects Abroad helps create local employment wherever we send volunteers. Employing local staff overseas and using their talents and knowledge is important to us. This local knowledge and support enables the organization to channel the skills of the volunteers from more affluent countries to regions around the world where they are needed. Volunteers also learn from their placements and the people they meet, and they gain experience in a chosen field. In the 21st century, we believe this mutual respect is what cultural exchange is all about.
