International Print Journalism Internships in Bolivia with Projects Abroad

Interns participating on a print journalism internship in Bolivia work on the "Cochabanner," a monthly English language publication. This was established by Projects Abroad following on from the success of the "Sivakasi Times" in India.

The Cochabanner is distributed for free within the city of Cochabamba and covers a variety of topics: from news and current affairs to features and reviews. The newspaper gives the people of Cochabamba the chance to learn about local topics and state their opinions, while at the same time practicing English. It also gives organizations and other local groups the opportunity to 'spread the word' about the work they do.

  • Highlights

Working alongside a local journalist, you will be given a range of responsibilities; everything from researching stories and interviewing people to writing articles and editing. You can also design layouts and get involved in various aspects of producing the publication. There are contributions by students from Cochabamba University, so you could get involved with editing, proofreading or even translating Spanish articles written by them, if you're up to it!

There are always lots of things going on in and around Cochabamba, so you will never be short of stories. Whether you are reporting on a strike, interviewing a local politician or attending a function, your knowledge of Bolivia and its people will grow along with your confidence.

This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved with this pioneering publication, learning about many aspects of journalism, all while experiencing life in this vibrant Bolivian city.

  • Projects Abroad's Mission Statement

As part of the global economy, Projects Abroad helps create local employment wherever we send volunteers. Employing local staff overseas and using their talents and knowledge is important to us. This local knowledge and support enables the organization to channel the skills of the volunteers from more affluent countries to regions around the world where they are needed. Volunteers also learn from their placements and the people they meet, and they gain experience in a chosen field. In the 21st century, we believe this mutual respect is what cultural exchange is all about.
