Ghana is a fantastic place to spend time volunteering or interning on an international medical placement in Africa. Volunteering on a Medicine & Healthcare project in Ghana can be done as part of a college summer break, a gap year, a career-break, or during a vacation. As a Medicine & Healthcare volunteer you will gain a great deal of valuable work-experience alongside some of the most skilled doctors in the country. The facilities are generally of a decent standard, on par with many hospitals in the west.

Whether you are a student joining us before going to a dental school, or already have dental knowledge and experience, the doctors and dentists in Ghana are eager for you to be involved. Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn - and also to help staff with their duties - will ensure that your experience is second to none.

Projects Abroad can offer voluntary placements in Dentistry in the five regions of Ghana in which we work.

In Accra our Dentistry volunteers work in a large Police hospital in the neighbourhood popularly known as Danquah Circle.

In Cape Coast the Central Regional Hospital is one of the most modern hospitals in Ghana, with a wide range of departments and a large amount of new equipment.

In the Akuapem Hills the Koforidua Regional hospital is a large state-run hospital that offers placements to anyone with skills, or an interest, in Dentistry.

In the Kumasi South hospital - which sits between the three cities of Atonsu, Agogo and Chirapatre - our volunteers can also work in Dentistry. This is a very important hospital, serving a local population of over 400,000.

In Ho we work with the Municipal hospital and Regional hospital as well as a local polyclinic. They are busy medical centres which cover the population of the Ho region.

Ghana is an exciting and popular place to spend some time on a volunteer project or internship. Ghana is an intensely colorful land on the West coast of Africa. Once the British colony known as the 'Gold Coast', it is renowned for the friendliness and warmth of its people. Ghana has great beaches, wild savannah and dense rainforests. This English-speaking country provides volunteers with a wonderful introduction to Africa; it is politically-stable, safe, affordable and rewarding to visit.

All accommodation is organized, paid for and monitored by Projects Abroad. All project placements are regularly visited and checked. We require high standards of supervision and accommodation, which are verified before you arrive in Argentina.

This project offers the opportunity to become fully immersed in the culture in a manner which even the most hardened of backpackers could never hope to do.
