Sri Lanka
Share |

Location
Sri Lanka: Colombo Central, Kandy

Program Duration
1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks

Dates
Sunday July 1st - Saturday July 14th 2012 | Sunday July 22nd - Saturday August 4th 2012

  • Description

Based in several small towns along the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, south of Colombo, care work in Sri Lanka is a multifaceted experience offering an enormous variety of choice. However, all the work has one basic requirement: a love of working with children.

You will work with your fellow volunteers in kindergartens and day care centers helping children learn the alphabet or organizing activities like arts and crafts. In the afternoons, volunteers assist in numerous areas with the children - from helping with homework to organizing sports games to reading with a child individually.

  • Highlights

You will live with a local host family, which allows you to be fully immersed in the Sri Lankan way of life.

Depending on the weather during the weekend, we will either take you rafting, to one of the many beaches in the region for water sports, or to visit an ancient city.

  • Projects Abroad's Mission Statement

As part of the global economy, Projects Abroad helps create local employment wherever we send volunteers. Employing local staff overseas and using their talents and knowledge is important to us. This local knowledge and support enables the organization to channel the skills of the volunteers from more affluent countries to regions around the world where they are needed. Volunteers also learn from their placements and the people they meet, and they gain experience in a chosen field. In the 21st century, we believe this mutual respect is what cultural exchange is all about.
