Project HOPE (Health Opportunities for People Everywhere) was founded in 1958 by Dr. William B. Walsh, M.D. Dr. Walsh wanted to help and respond to the poor health condition of young children in the South Pacific during World War II, so he envisioned a floating medical center that would help in educating people about how to improve their health through a simple application of medical knowledge. He persuaded U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower to donate a Navy ship that would support his cause, the USS Consolation. The ship was transformed into SS HOPE with the help and support of many corporations and individuals, giving birth to PROJECT HOPE. Project HOPE aims to achieve health care solutions around the world through implementing health education programs and providing humanitarian assistance in areas of need. The organization continues to search for new partners who can help in providing more and better lasting solutions catering to different health problems worldwide.
