  • Description

This is a mini tour to allow those teens who are not able to attend the full 4 weeks. We have only one scheduled summer camp per year, and breaking this tour up into smaller weeks allows for a different experience for those on a limited time frame.

During this portion of summer camp, teens will work hands on with homeless children from 9a.m. to 4p.m. in day camp activities. Our adventure summer camp is a traveling/exploration camp:

    Interactive Field Trips Include:
    * Zoo to allow our children to learn about different animals, visit the petting zoo and feed the white tiger. Teen mentors will also help their buddies make animal masks and read animal stories.
    * Oneka 'aka' as Beach to explore the ecosystem of the tide-pools. Teens will also help make underwater telescopes to allow the children to see up close the fish, and sea creatures below their feet.
    * UH Hawai'i will be hosting an athletic and cultural day for the group. We will be introduced to native Hawaiian sports and activities.
    * Movie Day. Teens and their buddies will choose a movie and enjoy ice-shave (a local favorite).
    * Hats off to Reading Parade. The mentors and their buddies will make hats and then parade to the local park for an afternoon of play. We will also parade to McDonald's to enjoy an ice-cream sundae.
    * Pahoa Pool will also be part of our field trip. This center has a fun area for the smaller children to play water games, as well as a full size pool with high dive board.
    * Teens will earn a total of 50 hours of community service in mentoring and leadership.

In the evenings teens will participate in the cultural events to include:
    * Making authentic Ti' Leaf Lei and Hula Skirts
    * Learning the art of Hula and Play Ukulele with the local award winning band
    * Preparing Lau Lau the traditional Hawaiian dish for the luau.

Teens will earn a total of 10 community service hours for their work towards graduation prep.

During the weekend (Friday-Sunday) we will be exploring the other side of the islands. This will include the hot spot beaches and a snorkel cruise in Kona. We will also enjoy Teen Night Dance at the locals favorite spot and walk the shops of Ali'i Drive. Teens will also help with the collection of school supplies for their camp buddies. They will earn 8 hours of community service in marketing and promotion.
