Share |

Location: Hilo, Honolulu: Hawaii (USA); Hawaii: United States

Program Duration: 1-2 weeks

Typical Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks

Dates: July 1st-15th

  • Description

This is a fun-filled pack adventure tour of Hawai'i, as well as the opportunity to change the lives of homeless children. A once in a life time opportunity to learn a new culture and be part of the changing world.

The tour starts off in Oahu with the original family owned Luau. We will spend our first 5 days exploring the islands wonders not available to the tourists. Our camp leaders are from the islands, native born, and will show us what it means to be Hawaiian.

We will learn to surf by the Quicksilver pipeline champion Kevin Okimoto on the waves of Waikiki. Spend our 4th of July on the white sand tiki torch lite beaches with all the nightlife entertainment. Teen dance night with the live band while enjoying the famous volcano nachos at our favorite place on Waikiki.

Your community service projects will begin the second day after you have had the opportunity of orientation and teen grouping. We will be hosting our back to school fundraisers and hygiene drives for the homeless children on the Waianae Coast. This will allow us to present our keiki (children) with a bag of goodies for their 4th of July celebration we will host in the morning. The teens will have a very RARE first time encounter with some of our homeless children in their living environment. The teens will see first hand how the children spend their days, and the poverty which is their reality. We feel this give the teens a real perspective on what impact they truly have during this tour.

Off to the Big Island of Hawai'i for more adventures and working hands on with the homeless children during our Adventures Abound Summer camp. After arriving on the Big Island, we will meet new teens coming in for their segment of the tour as well. We will have teen activities and get to know the new comers while getting ready for our first day of summer camp.

Our adventures on this island are packed with Cultural experiences and island exploration. We will travel to all parts of the island from Kona to Hilo and explore the lush tropical gardens, waterfalls, and beautiful beaches. Teens will also aboard the Body Glove snorkel cruise and have a full day of underwater explorations, including waterslides, on board BBQ and more excitement.

Our cultural lessons are taught by native Hawaiians who will be using the recipes passed down through the generations to teach our teens the authentic way of Hawai'i. Teens will learn the art of Hula and Mele, as well as prepare a traditional Hawaiian Luau dish. Our girls will be making their own authentic ti' leaf skirt and lei, while the boys learn to play ukulele for the hula as well as prepare the Lua Lau.

During our summer camp adventures, teen will be able to select their camp buddy and work along side, guiding them through the daily activities. This is an adventure camp, which allows us to learn about the islands and ecosystem, as well as open the minds of our keiki. We will be traveling to all parts of the island, so teens will be paired up to help supervise their camp buddies while we are on tour. Some of the field trips include:

    1. The Zoo. We will feed the white tiger, attend the petting zoo area, have a guided tour of the animals, and dance with the birds. This days theme will be zoo animals, and we will have a story book about the animals, eat "bunny" burgers and other themed treats, make animal masks and have funky lizard tattoos.

    2. Oneka'aka'a Beach. We will explore the tide pools and learn about the eco-system along with the sea creatures below our feet. Teens will help their buddies make telescopes for a better view of the creatures before the water exploration. For lunch we will eat "starfish" sandwiches, and "sea slug" soup. Activities for today will include reading time focused on the preservation of our coral reefs, and make a sea foam mobile.

    3. Krazy Kids Park: We will attend a park filled with all kinds of crazy activities from miniature towns, to oversized trains. Play sports, video games, drive remote boats, and even make model airplanes. Our theme of the day will be Krazy Kids and we will eat all types of Krazy contraptions during story time.

    4. Movie Day: Teens and their buddies will watch a kid themed movie and enjoy shave ice in the local park. This is a rare opportunity for the children, to actually go to the movie theater and order popcorn, etc. While playing in the park, we will also have a theme of the day along with art activities.

Just some of our daily activities. We have sports day, space audacity, and other fun filled activities to complete our 7 days of camp.

During the weekends: Teens will spend their time in Kona. We will go to Hapuna Beach, Waikaloa Village, and explore the famous Ali'i Drive.
