Malindi town, the district headquarters of Malindi district, is approximately 120 kilometers north of Mombasa and 600 kilometers from Nairobi city. Since the elevation of Malindi to a district, the hospital received district status and thus the facility had to be expanded.
* New wards were built raising the bed capacity from 80 t0 250 beds.
* A maternity shelter was built to cater for pregnant women.
* A paedriatic ward
* A HIV/AIDS fully equipped wing with voluntary counseling and testing services.
* A theatre
* A maternal child healthcare department.
Responsibilities:
* The volunteer will shadow a doctor during ward rounds early in the morning as well as in the evening
* One will be rotated in all hospital departments unless your a profession in certain field
* Backpackers will remain in the hospital after ward rounds and be sent in different departments during their volunteer time.
* Interns will submit report and questionaires to the doctor in charge for grades
* Volunteers will take part in hospital outreaches i.e immunization
* Volunteers will take part in community medical camps
* Visit to historical sites and other tourist attractions
* A homestay program that allows volunteers to learn the local culture and language
* One who has finished medical or nursing course
* One who needs to accomplish community service as part of the school/college requirement
* One who needs grades approoved by a qualified doctor
* One who wants to learn more about tropical and coastal diseases
* One willing to learn about other medical procedures and challenges
