Join a team running a 2 week English Camp programme for Thai children aged between 8 and 12 years old on the island of Koh Phangan and mainland province of Suratthani.
Working with a team of other volunteers and our staff, your role will be to run 3 English camps (2 days long each) at different schools. The first camp will be held on the beautiful tropical island of Koh Phangan and the following two camps will be held in the mainland province of Suratthani. The schools in Suratthani province are particularly keen to have the English camps as they do not normally have the opportunity to meet native English speakers.
PoD Summer English Camps are an exciting way to help and encourage Thai children to learn and practise English. The camps involve as much fun and interaction as possible including games, sports, songs, art and other creative activities. There is also an opportunity to explore different cultures; the Thais are very keen to share some of their traditions.
How you will spend the 2 weeks:
The team will arrive into and spend 9 nights on Koh Phangan, carrying out the preparation phase there, the first English camp, and then having some relaxation time at the end.
After a couple of days to acclimatise, settle in and have some local tours, we start the process of preparing for the camps. We will provide plenty of guidance, ideas and resources, and there will be a small budget available to buy resources for the camps. The team will run and manage each camp.
For the middle phase of the camps, the team will travel over to Suratthani province and spend 5 nights there, running 2 English camps at local schools and having some time to do some exploration and activities. 3 of the nights in Suratthani will be in a tropical hotel and 2 of the nights will be staying with a local Thai family as a homestay, a unique and fun opportunity to see how Thai people live.
In between camps the team will get to enjoy local activities including a Thai welcome dinner, Koh Phangan island tour, Thai cooking class, and 1 day snorkelling trip to Koh Tao.

A native English teacher is really valuable, building student confidence and quickly improving speaking and listening skills. English is very important in Thailand, opening many job and education opportunities for those with a good command of the language.
Our Summer English Camp programme has become very well established in Thailand and is one of the most popular and in demand activities from the schools in the areas we work with. Each year the camps benefit over 250 children, having a big impact in a short period of time.
You do not need any specific qualifications or experience to volunteer on this project.
