Gain an amazing perspective about international music and the power of performance as you work with an arts group in this unique internship in Nairobi, Kenya. Youll work with the highly skilled performing artists of VOCAL, a dance, music, and theater organization that performs in the slums of Nairobi. You will learn about the distinct role of music in East African urban society as you witness firsthand the power of performing arts to change marginalized communities for the better. During your internship you will attend music performances around the city, teach workshops to after-school groups, and help with the administration of vibrant musical groups. This internship will challenge and inspire you, allowing you to gain unparalleled insight into the resiliency of the human condition.
* Live in one of Africa's largest and most interesting cities
* Create a performance-based final project that will showcase your experience in Kenya
* Become immersed in Kenyan culture by living with the music organization's director
* Join drumming circles and jam sessions with local musicians
