  • Description

**Important update: Peace House Africa has been forced to suspend this volunteer program until further notice.

Please contact us if you would like to be notified when the situation on campus changes and we are able to reinstate the program.

We are grateful for your support during this trying time, and hope to work with you in the future.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This volunteering experience in Tanzania gives you a unique chance to give back to Tanzania. There is no minimum number of volunteer days required. Make an impact through a variety of activities in a short period of time:

-We offer a structured full-day volunteer program for maximum benefit to the school, best support of the volunteer and most meaningful impact for the students.
-Volunteer Coordinators in the US and Tanzania provide information and support every step of the way.
-Stay in safe and comfortable volunteer housing located right on the Peace House Secondary School (PHS) campus.

    Activities include:

GUIDING SMALL GROUP LEARNING: Guide small groups of students in creative problem solving and critical thinking exercises--concepts not normally part of the Tanzanian curriculum.

PRIMARY SCHOOL VISITS: See typical government schools where PHS students come from. Peace House provides support and teacher training to help improve these schools.

HANDS-ON VOLUNTEER WORK: Help with construction, gardening or landscape work to improve the school campus. Use your skills in the library or computer lab.

STUDENT EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: Participate in extra-curricular activities with the students, ranging from sports and cooking to academic clubs.

CULTURAL EDUCATION: Enjoy evening discussions about Tanzanian culture, history and language that will give you a deeper understanding of the day's experiences.

A Volunteer Experience at Peace House Secondary School can easily be added on to the end or beginning of your safari, Kilimanjaro climb, or trip to Zanzibar!

  • Highlights

Give back to the beautiful and wondrous country of Tanzania--perhaps after viewing the wildlife, climbing Kilimanjaro, or spending time on the beaches of Zanzibar--by sharing your time and talents at Peace House Secondary School, a boarding school for AIDS orphans and vulnerable children.

Easily integrate into our structured program and participate by guiding small group learning, going on primary school visits, helping with construction, gardening, or library work, joining students' extra-curricular activities, and learning about Tanzanian culture.

Stay in our safe and comfortable on-campus volunteer housing with impressive views of Mt. Meru, western bathrooms, separate bedrooms, full kitchens and living areas. PHS is located on a 100 acre enclosed, gated campus with 24-hour security guards, to ensure a safe environment. PHS is located just west of Arusha, 2 miles south of the domestic airport, 30 miles from Kilimanjaro International Airport, and 100 miles east of the Ngorongoro Crater.
