  • Description

Are you interested in volunteering in India and experiencing a culture unlike any other in the world while interacting with other volunteers from around the world? Then Peace Child India is the organisation for you!

Our two main projects are teaching English in rural government schools and running a program in a government home for street and working children. Our volunteers - with the help of full-time facilitators - plan and execute weekly lesson plans for the children. At the schools we work primarily with 6th and 7th standard students [ages 11-14]; in the Children's Home the boys range in age from 7-17.

We also have a project called Healthy Body Healthy Mind. Our long-term interns design health and nutrition workshops for government school children to teach them the importance of living healthy lifestyles.

We offer 2 and 4-week Meaningful Tour options for groups of 4 or more people who want to combine an action project with a tour of some of south India's most beautiful sights.

Recently we have developed two new opportunities: a medical internship and a media/public relations internship. Medical interns will have the opportunity to shadow a local doctor and organise checkups at the schools in which we work. Media interns will be in charge of all Peace Child India publications, keeping the website up-to-date, and will have the opportunity to intern at a local publication.

In addition to all of these projects we also sponsor the education of local children whose parents cannot afford to send them for higher education.

Our volunteers come from all over the world [UK, USA, Canada, Germany, Austria, Malaysia, Australia, France, etc] and live and work together for a truly unique experience. All volunteers contribute a fee that covers all lodging, food, project costs, and staff support. Volunteers can come anytime throughout the year can stay for anywhere from 1 to 6 months.

If these programs sound interesting to you, please visit our website or email us for more information.

  • Highlights

As a volunteer, you will be working alongside Indian youth and other international volunteers helping to put projects into action. You will gain first hand experience of working in the field and helping to initiate change within a community.

We are an NGO that works with marginalized communities to raise awareness about health and education issues. The method of working is cultural, educational and participatory in nature. We regularly use theatre, puppetry, music and art. Our aim is to empower young people to initiate changes within their communities, and provide them with educational or employment opportunities.

Living in Bangalore is also a unique experience. As a modern metropolitan city, there is an abundance of western influence, as can be seen in the numerous shopping malls, coffee shops, and other amenities. But amongst all of this is still a city that holds dear its culture and heritage. In addition, Bangalore is very centrally located and offers the opportunity to travel around south India on weekends and holidays.
