A. Journalism Internships
Our journalist interns will have varied tasks and responsibilities, including: helping to translate articles; maintaining the web page (posting online articles, updating Newswire, more); maintaining Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites for the magazine; producing journalistic articles; and assisting editors and writers with research and other needs.
The work schedule is flexible, mainly we expect interns to meet their responsibilities in a timely, careful manner. In some cases, internships can be done via telecommute.
Areas that an intern might concentrate in include:
* Travel writing
* Environment writing
* News writing
* Feature writing
* Outdoor sports writing (fly fishing, climbing, mountaineering, trekking. etc)
* Cultural writing
B. Photojournalists and Videographer Interns
Patagon Journal is very interested in hosting interns with a strong passion for photography, multimedia journalism and video production. Interns must have their own equipment.
C. Sales and Marketing Interns
Interns working in this area would preferably have some sales and marketing experience.
The interns will assist our sales and marketing team in several areas, which could include: promoting the magazine to diverse institutions, organizations and individuals; selling ads; managing contract delivery and follow-up; building a distribution chain for the print magazine; developing and managing the online store; developing travel packages in conjunction with travel agencies and tour operators to offer our subscribers and website visitors; and selling subscriptions.
D. Web and Graphic Design Interns
Among their tasks, graphic design interns will help lay out the print magazine, design ads and create publicity materials. We're also on the look out for web designers (knowledge of Joomla a plus) to help us with the website, assist with the IPad version of the magazine, and more.
* Internships are full-time or part-time. Part-time interns working hours vary depending on project and position, but generally are expected to work a minimum of 2 to 3 days a week. Internships are from 3 to 6 months, though some exceptions can be made.
* Internships are unpaid (though there are some opportunities for making money). This means interns must have sufficient funds to cover basic food, housing and transport needs, estimated at a minimum of USD 500 per month. Interns should take into consideration all other non-basic needs (traveling, etc.) when planning for their internship.
* Good computer skills and at least an intermediate level of Spanish
* For journalism interns, excellent writing and research skills are a must.
*A passion for Patagonia, the environment, travel, or the outdoors is a plus.
*The ideal candidate will be reliable, a fast-learner, and able to work independently. An ideal candidate might also have some journalism experience.
To apply, you must send a resume, writing samples (if applying for a journalism internship) and a brief letter describing your motivations and expectations for an internship with Patagon Journal.
