Built on a crescent-shaped ridge, Darjeeling is surrounded by hills that are thickly covered with coniferous forests and terraced tea gardens. The idyllic setting, the exhilarating air and the stunning views of the Kanchanjunga range will be the setting for the Passage Darjeeling program.
Upon British colonization of India, Darjeeling was established as one of their most important hill stations. By 1857 Darjeeling had a population of 10,000, an increase that was largely due to the recruitment of Nepali laborers to work the tea plantations. Even today, the vast majority of people speak Nepali as their first language.
Although colonialism was one of the most devastating periods in Asian history, the experience brought a particular set of circumstances to Darjeeling. Today the area boasts one of South Asia's strongest education systems, and a fascinating blend of Eastern and Western cultures.

It is one of the most unique experiences that a student can have with no particular qualification required. All you need is a deep understanding of cultures and the desire to explore a place that has captured the imaginations of the world for centuries. It is for those with the energy to take a journey that will truly follow you throughout your life.
Our programs combine experiential education and cultural immersion with the goal to provide a fulfilling and safe educational experience that becomes a source for inspiration long after the program is over.

Since my time with Passage, I've returned to Kathmandu twice, for a total of six more months- something that would have been much more difficult had I not had my initial Passage experience to build...
