The Pacific International Hotel Management School is accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority to deliver the Post Graduate Diploma in Hotel Management (Level 8).
The school is dedicated to the hospitality industry in further building the standards of hospitality management within New Zealand and globally. It operates as a co-operative venture between the hospitality industry and higher education institutions. It aims to facilitate the demands for postgraduate or specialised hospitality management training and education to produce graduates with professional and personal skills at the highest level.
The PIHMS Postgraduate course contains modules in tourism and marketing management, managerial communications, operations and logisitics, hospitality financial business environment, managing human resources, introduction to research, and applied research. Additional to the theory papers is a 12 week operational training course where students learn the requirements for the successful hotel operations in food and beverage and rooms division which encompasses housekeeping, room maintenance, front office, night audit, reception and reservations. On successful completion of this part of the course which covers 42 weeks students are placed into appropriate hospitality work environments, where the student contracts with an employer for six months of paid employment. PIHMS requires 400 hours of a successful employment placement before the granting of the degree of Postgraduate Diploma can be conferred. Graduate are entitled to apply for a graduate visa which entitles them to a further 12 months of work in New Zealand, after which permanent residency can be applied for if the graduate is still employed.
