Diving volunteers wanted for Coral Reef Dive Surveys in the Andaman Sea, based in Phuket! November 2010 April 2011. Openmind Projects is helping Thai Marine Research Center to organize coral reef surveys to check the impact of tourism (which is an increasing and big problem) from November 2010 to April 2011 and welcome qualified volunteers to help with the reef surveys. This volunteer work includes diving at some 5 different sites on the Thai coast, the Andaman Sea, and to document findings as instructed by the local manager. Volunteers maybe asked to do other tasks too.
If you're looking for an amazing marine and coastal volunteer placement untouched by tourism, yet near bustling tourism spots and beaches on Phuket Island then this project is probably for you. An array of leisure activities is available in Phuket such as islands tours, yachting, fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving and of course, the night life for those interested.
This project is heavily involved in saving marine wildlife, coral reefs, sea turtles, tropical fish as well as the threatened mangrove forests. There is a special mangrove trail just outside the NP office.
