The two-year Master of Arts Degree in Fashion and Textile Design encourages students to explore and gain experience with surfaces, textiles and new materials involved in the creative and production processes of design, fashion design and interior design.
The program is aimed at developing analytic, project and communication skills in a cross-disciplinary profile between design, fashion, theatre and interior design. Areas of specialization include design, fashion, textile and surfaces design, knitwear and accessories, architecture, interior design, stage setting, communication, decoration, theatre design, and art.
The program takes a cross-disciplinary approach to train professionals who are familiar with a wide range of areas such as design, fashion, materials engineering, chemistry, decoration, and graphic design. The program also aims to crossbreed the traditional processes of weaving and dressmaking with architecture and design, engineering and communication, and digital art and decoration.
To develop such complex skills, the program combines theoretical classroom study, experimental project workshops, and technical and laboratory sessions which develop thorough knowledge of materials, textiles, and yarns.
The program has two major areas of study: one focuses on the application of textiles and materials to the body, therefore involving all the fashion-related areas of study; another focuses on their application to spaces, including possible applications in the fields of interior, furniture, exhibit design.
Courses provide in-depth examinations of materials and textiles, as well as the technologies that produce and transform them. In theoretical lectures students deal with the cultural aspects of materials culture and manipulation, while in the design labs they personally experiment the creation of new materials and textiles. In each lab students work on a project supervised by an internationally renowned professional team of experts.
