*New availability from January 2017!* With volcanoes, glaciers, waterfalls, geysers, and hot springs aplenty, Iceland is definitely a one-of-a-kind place that everyone...
Over exceeded any of my expectations!

I was an intern in Nordurflug Helicopter Tours over the summer of 2014. Staid there for 5 months and had an Erasmus agreement with my university and the company. Have to say it was the most amazing time of my life, will never forget this experience! Iceland itself is one of a kind place on earth, I simply fell in love with the country. The company consists of great people, they truly love what they do and I became the same fairly quickly.
I was a part of the sales department, had to make flight reservations, communicate with customers through emails and phone, and greet them on location as well. I would like to emphasize - this not an easy job. A lot of responsibility is put on you and it definitely keeps you busy. The atmosphere in the office is dynamic (good kind), and in my mind this is a great learning and developing opportunity for young students. It was amazing how much my professionals skills developed during my stay there.
On my free time I travelled around the country.Needless to say it was simply amazing to witness the beauty of Iceland. I had an apartment in the centre of Reykjavik arranged by the company. Could not get better than that! :)
Work and life in a typical Icelandic way

Before I started my internship I was not expecting a placement like this. I was looking forward to work together with really nice colleagues, as I already had the chance to get to know some of them through our email conversations. Furthermore I was expecting to see some helicopters departing and arriving and of course I was hoping to get the chance to join a tour one day.
But actually all my expectations were exceeded: I already got the chance to join some of the helicopter tours, which are not just a wonderful experience for myself, they are also quite good for sharing those experiences with customers who are planning a helicopter flight. – It is always more convincing if you know what you are talking about. Starting from the first working day the company welcomed me very well. I felt pretty fast involved and like an equal part of the team. Although I am an intern I already got a lot of responsibility regarding new projects, closing or opening shifts, creating bookings, etc.
During the intership I also got the chance to explore the country. Whenever friends of mine are visiting me Norðurflug is really flexible with switching shifts or giving me days off during my friends‘ visit. My impression of Iceland itself is that the people are kind of one big family. Everyone is working hand in hand together. Therefore I also experienced that a lot of other touristic companies are offering discounts on their tours, if you are an employee at Norðurflug.
For me it is also a big bonus that I am working together with local Icelandic people. So it is a good chance to get to know some part of the Icelandic language, the culture and also some typical Icelandic dishes when you go for lunch or dinner with your colleagues, like the best lamb of the world or typical fish dishes, like plokkfiskur. Whenever there is a party going on you also will experience the taste of Icelandic beers or Brennivin, the so called „Black Death“.
As for now I am still enjoying my time in Iceland during the internship and I am looking forward to the next exciting months here at Norðurflug Helicopter Tours. I am so grateful that I got this opportunity and I am appreciating every day. :)
