Intensive Arabic Course
Description
The Arabic department offers regular one-month intensive courses for students from all over the world. We offer these courses for the Novice High through Advanced II levels. Two or more courses can be booked subsequently for ascending levels in which case all following courses will be offered at a reduced fee. During the intensive course students take four hours of Arabic a day.
Optionally students can work extra hours with an Omani language partner or with a private tutor to improve their conversational skills, concentrate on certain areas of interest such as literature, classical Arabic, Quran recitation or Omani dialect.
In addition to this ambitious and Arabic-infused learning environment at the center, Arabic-learning throughout the students’ stay in Oman is further supported by their placement with Omani hosts with Arabic as their first language where students will be encouraged and in fact be obliged to speak Arabic on a daily basis spontaneously in every-day situations and where they will gain first-hand insights into Omani culture which is among the less-well known in Middle Eastern cultures.Upon request NMTI can arrange private tuition for periods or levels not covered by our regular courses.
We are also happy to arrange courses for student groups according to their special requirements in course length and content. Group courses will be offered at a special fee.
NMTI has its own curriculum based on "Al-Kitab Al-Asasi" by El-Said Badawi as core textbook. This will be complemented by drawing additional material from other internationally recognized textbooks such as “Modern Standard Arabic” by Eckehard Schulz or “Al Kitaab Fi Taallum Al-Lugha Al-Arabiyya” by Kristen Brustad and Mahmoud Al-Battal which will be used together with authentic source texts and videoclips from Arabic media news channels, newspapers, magazines and cartoons. The language of instruction at NMTI is Arabic only for all levels and Arabic as the prime medium of communication within the institute is strongly encouraged.
