Turn your love of language into an exciting career. Spend two semesters in Madrid, where you'll immerse yourself in Spanish language and culture. Then complete your master's degree at NYU's Greenwich Village campus in New York City, where you'll study pedagogy and gain experience as a student teacher in public schools. Our unique, two-year master's degree program in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language leads to dual certification as a teacher of Spanish for grades 7-12 and as a teacher of English as a Second Language (TESOL) for grades K-12 and requires and undergraduate major or minor in Spanish language or literature. Generous scholarships are available.
The M.A. degree program in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language is offered jointly by Steinhardt's Foreign Language Education Program and NYU Madrid, Department of Spanish and Portuguese Languages and Literatures, Graduate School of Arts and Science.

As a student in this 50-unit M.A. program, you'll benefit from the expertise and resources of two premier departments at NYU the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Languages and Literatures and their NYU Madrid program in the Graduate School of Arts and Science and Steinhardt's Department of Teaching and Learning. You'll earn a joint M.A. degree from both Schools and be eligible for dual New York State certification in Spanish for grades 7-12 and English as a Second Language (TESOL) for grades K-12.
