Founded in 1969 as part of NYU's Center for French Civilization and Culture, NYU Paris is at the forefront of French-American cultural exchange. The NYU Paris academic center has hosted more than 4,500 outstanding undergraduates from over 100 U.S. colleges and universities. Courses are offered in numerous areas, including art history, cinema studies, history, literature, and politics. Two distinct programs are designed for students from various disciplines to take courses taught in English or French based on their level of language skills. Students who are fluent in French may enroll in one or more courses taught in French at one of our affiliated institutions in the French university system, the Sorbonne, which includes the University of Paris I, II, VII, and X and at specialized schools (the Institut detudes Politiques, the École Normale Supérieure, the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, and the Institut Catholique).
Various weekly activities allow students an opportunity to enhance their French experience. Most activities are included in the cost of tuition and include day trips to places such as Chartres, Giverny, and Versailles. Special events like wine and cheese tastings, film screenings, lectures and conferences, walking tours, and guided museum visits are also scheduled. NYU Paris makes reservations at special student rates for theatre, ballet, and opera performances as well as for special art exhibitions. Weekend excursions are organized to places such as Strasbourg, Brussels, and the Loire Valley. NYU Paris subsidizes some of these trips.
